¥Australia's Aboriginal, or, indigenous population has a history dating back many thousands of years, with some anthropologists suggesting as far back as thirty thousand. With no written language to this day, the stories and events from the past, which is known as 'The Dreamtime', in language, gnarrangkani, (pron.narrangunny) have been passed down through the generations by word of mouth, or via physical methods, such as wood carvings, sand drawings, or the more permanent rock art, or by cave art, where long-gone artisans painted their picture stories in ochres, clays, tannin and even blood, often using the gum from eucalyptus trees, or spinifex gum as binders.

The culture is a rich and vibrant one, laced with characters, events and creatures both real and spiritual, which may or may not have been refined or embellished with the telling and retelling of the individual dreaming stories. We, at Narrangunny, support aboriginal artists who wish to have a degree of independence in the creation and marketing their contemporary traditional art. We supply Certificates of Authenticity for all works purchased. Aboriginal Art is a vital part of the Australia’s cultural tradition and a unique identity for Australian and world wide art.
