Marcia (Rivers) Purdie

Age : 34 years
Language : Kija
Bush Name : Magigul

Born in Derby, with her formative years spent in Hall’s Creek, and her schooling in Wyndham, Marcia, or Marcie, as she prefers, is truly a child of the Kimberleys.

With her great grandfather and grandfather coming from lands to the east of Hall’s Creek, and now, with her father Harold trying to develop a small 2 acre block in the area on Landsdowne station, (sold to him in 1991 by a grateful station manager for $100). Marcie, husband Dallas and their seven children are most appreciative of the chance to visit and camp on the same place as did their forefathers.

Having lived at Turkey Creek / Warmun Community for some ten years, she has worked at several important positions within the community, including day-care co-ordinator and secretarial tasks, Marcie is currently home-based, which allows her the time to develop her new found love, painting. Having famous artist and mother-in-law Shirley Purdie and grandmother Madigan Thomas on hand to lend advice on ochre techniques has helped her to get started and is now painting her ‘old people’s country’, with confidence and freshness.
