Artist Name Jack Britten
Product Name Jack Britten "Yunguny Country" 120/90 cm. Ochre on linen (N-1334-JB)
Product Description Yunguny, (pron.) 'yoongoon', is a dreamtime character, who is large in size, covered in long, unkempt hair, and moves with a shuffling gait. He inhabits the caves, crevices and other deep, dark places in and around the Bungle Bungles. As with many gnarrangkani characters, he is never seen in his entirety, and despite his alarming appearance, he has never harmed any of the people who say they have caught glimpses of him. Jack says the spirit has watched over the Kija hunters and gatherers for many generations. He pictures, not Yunguny, but the 'country' in which one would be likely to encounter him. He depicts the Ord River, top, with the steep-sided, cave riddled, limestone formations that line it's banks as it skirts the eastern side of the world-famous National Park.
